A housing choice voucher (sometimes called a "Section 8" voucher) is a federally funded rental subsidy administered in DC by the DC Housing Authority (DCHA). DCHA manages the waiting list; applications open periodically. Visit dchousing.org or call DCHA directly for current application status.

Your voucher (the physical document), your photo ID, your current caseworker's contact information, and any paperwork DCHA has given you about your bedroom size and payment standard. If you have children, bring their information too — we'll need household composition for the application.

Housing Quality Standards is HUD's inspection checklist for voucher-supported units. Every voucher placement requires the unit to pass an HQS inspection before you can move in.
